Alpaca Shearing

About 9:00 AM we arrived.
It was the beginning of May, and there was a chilly wind.
We walked up to the barn, through the door, and inside.
Our adventure begins here.

Adorable looking alpacas waiting their turn for the shearing table.

Sarah compares the fleece color to a chart for registering purposes.

Before they're sheared, Alex and David blow as much dust as they can off with a blower.

Rebecca leads them to the shearing table....

On the table.  It provides a safe and clean way to shear the alpacas.
They're almost completely immobilized when they're on the table.

The fleece is bagged and saved.

It's rather dusty work, hence the bandannas.

The alpacas next stop is the "Beauty Salon", where Esther and I are stationed.

We used scissors to trim the wool around their eyes (so they could see) and on the sides of their faces where their halter sits.  Basically, we gave them haircuts. *grin*

Every once in a while, Sarah would enter the "salon" to either put an ear tag on a young one or ultrasound an expecting female.  Don't worry, the ear tagging doesn't hurt them.  *smile*

The young ones who were born last year were the most fun to trim.  For the most part, they just stood still while we worked, unlike some of the adults.  One customer got a lightening fast job, because she insisted on spitting the entire time.  No worries, she didn't get me - I made sure of that.  *grin*

Samuel and Alex watching us work and eating...again. *wink*

And a short video montage...enjoy!

It was one of the most fun days I've ever had, and I'd do it again.
In fact, Lord willing, I'll be there next year! *smile*

Happy Trails, y'all!

Hermits United

Remember how a few weeks ago in my "It's awesome" post, I mentioned meeting some of my bloggy friends?

Forgive me if I can't remember everyone's names, but from L-R Kristina, Kellie, Bella, myself, Cinta (sp?), and Annie in the front.  Did I get those all right?
It was my privilege and delight to be able to meet some of the lovely and very adorable DeLallo (should that "L" be capitalized?  It feels like it should be, but I'm not sure...) sisters!  You can find their blogs here, and here, and here.  Their family was on vacation in my area, and we were able to arrange a meeting.  We met at the library where hugs were exchanged and immediate Whovian fangirling ensued.  The Doctor was the primary topic, but we also managed to fit in a few Marvel superhero references, some Sherlock, a bit of Merlin, and a pinch of LoTR.  In retrospect, the library was NOT a good place to meet.  We kept saying, "fingers on lips!" to each other, but it didn't help much. *wink*  While we kept up our non-stop stream of Whovian chatter, we put together puzzles.  It was awesome.  It was...well, basically it was Hermits United.

Thank you ladies for a wonderful two hours!
If you're ever in the area again, let me know because I can't wait to do it again!

Kellie and I, being wonderfully nerdy. *smile*

Thank you Kellie dear for taking all of the pictures!

Happy Trails, y'all!

All I can say is, eShakti.
This was my first dress from them, and I would wear it every day if I could.  I really can't say enough good about this dress.  It's so comfortable, fits wonderfully, and I bought it from their overstock section.  And used the $25 GC I got for joining.  So it only cost me about *whispers* $15.  Eeep!!  The beige color, while not my first choice, is so versatile, and I love the 50s look!

: :

How was everyone's Sunday?  Mine was really nice.  Time spent with my family in Christ, laughing in the car with my bestie and bro, relaxing and watching Princess O'Rourke once we arrived home.  Yep, it was really nice.  Our pastor started a new series in church today, on the life/faith of Abraham.  The focus today was on the Lord's promises and instructions to Abraham, found in Genesis 11 & 12, and the faith he had in following His directions...although he didn't always obey right away.  The main point I went home with was that in order for His promises to be fulfilled, we need to seek Him first and fulfill our side of the promise.  I came away feeling refreshed and encouraged.  If the rest of the series is like today's sermon, then we're all in for a treat during these next months!
Happy Trails, y'all!

I fell in love with the print on this skirt the instant I saw it.  It reminds me of spring and sidewalk cafes and Paris.  And it's pleated.  I'm a sucker for knee length pleated skirts.  I've been intentionally incorporating more peachy pinks into my wardrobe, so you'll be seeing that color a lot this year.  Also loving the sleeves and yoke on this blouse.  So adorable.  I love thrifting way to much. *grin*

I don't know that any fathers read my blog but if you're a father (and even if you're not) Happy Fathers Day!
I made my daddy cheesecake and fixed one of his favorite dinners for him.  The fact that it was a no bake box mix cheesecake makes no difference - besides, he's the one who brought it home.  Hard to miss a hint like that.  *smile*

Question: What did you do to make your dad's day special?  I want to know!

I Do Like Ducklings // Vlog no. 4

A few weeks ago we found an abandoned duckling by our pond.  Actually, we found it when we were outside around a campfire with some friends.  We heard a peeping noise, and there he/she was.  For some reason the duckling decided our loud, crazy group was to be trusted.
*wink*
We brought him inside for the night, but decided to release him the next morning, reasoning that his chances of survival were better in his natural habitat.  This is just a short video of us releasing him.  Enjoy!

Isn't he cute?  And snuggly?  Which reminds me of this...

"Well, I *do* like ducklings."
"Yay!"

*grin*

Question: have you ever found an abandoned/injured wild animal and cared for it?  I want to know!
